  • What are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve the appearance of your skin. The chemical peel or skin peel is a cosmetic treatment in which a chemical solution is used to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin.

Typically administered as a facial to improve the appearance or feel of the skin, which causes the skin to exfoliate the outer layers of dead skin, revealing a new skin layer with improved tone, texture, and colour.

Chemical Peels can treat a variety of skin conditions, including:

    • Acne & Acne Scars
    • Age Spots
    • Dark Circles
    • Pigmentation
    • Hyperpigmentation
    • Sun Damaged Skin
    • Wrinkles & Ageing Skin

  • What Types of Chemical Peels are there?

Although there are many types of chemical peel treatments, they are however classified into 3 categories based on their strength.

    1. Superficial Peels

Superficial Peels, often be referred to as, “the lunchtime peel" are the mildest form of peel only penetrating the outermost layer of skin. Leaves skin feeling tighter for only a few hours. Regular treatment needed to maintain the effects.

    2. Medium Peels

Medium peels, also known as a TCA Peel, involves a chemical exfoliant to reach the middle and outer layer of skin. This ignites regenerative changes and can restore the skin’s tone and texture in just a single setting.  This can cause the skin to stay red for a number of days after the treatment and last up to 6 weeks. Treatment recommended every 6-12 months to maintain the effects.

    3. Deep Peels

As the name implies, deep peels will fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin. They target damaged skin cells, moderate to severe scarring, deep wrinkles, and skin discoloration. This can be a very aggressive treatment and may require a local anaesthetic or sedative as well as having your heart and blood pressure monitored as phenol, the chemical used, can cause dangerous effects on the heart and kidneys. Expect redness and discomfort for a few days after treatment and swelling can last up to two weeks with redness lasting up to three months. Benefits to this treatment is its lasting effects and often only required as a one-off.

Superficial and medium peels are usually safe, provided they're administered correctly. Deeper peels are more risky.
